Why Apple Opposing FBI Request is Not About Privacy

On Friday, Apple legally declared their intent to fight the court order to weaken security on an iPhone 5C involved with the San Bernardino attack. It’s not a surprise as Apple has been quite vocal about it’s opposition to the FBI’s request, but now the legal fight is official, and the media circus is truly about to begin. Over the past week, tech media outlets took this news story under it wings, declaring their support of Apple’s defiance with near unanimous acceptance. Yet, I feel like it’s all for the wrong reasons. During this last week, there has been an … Read more…

MWC 2016 – HP Unveils The Elite X3 Windows Phone

This device has previously been leaked like crazy, but HP came ahead of the buzz today and announced it before the main festivities of MWC. Their new phone will be the Windows 10 Mobile powered Elite X3. The specs are pretty much exactly what we reported earlier via leaks, but a few additional details have come out since that post: All the leaked specs have been confirmed, except that the storage has been updated to 64 GB. But it should be noted that this thing has all of the technology. Keep the following in mind: 6-inch 2K AMOLED panel Latest … Read more…

CES 2016 – Lenovo’s New PC Has A Wireless Projector

Despite the fact that Mikes Good Stuff is not necessarily a tech website, I do still pay attention to CES. These days, CES has become more and more irrelevant, as the big players continue to release their biggest offerings at their own events. Funny enough, I’m rarely ever impressed or interested in the releases of the big players. What interests me is the strange, the obscure, the niche, and the things that push technology forward. So far today, I’ve seen some sort of Nvidia supercomputer that may or may not ever show up in a future car in the decades … Read more…

Lumia 950XL Unboxing & First Impressions

The two Microsoft Lumia 950 flagships are finally here, after what seems like the longest wait in the history of niche mobile phone fandom ever. It’s been since early 2014 since the last Lumia flagship was released in the U.S., even if that was the ill-fated Verizon exclusive Icon. It’s been even longer if you’re on AT&T. Like many stupidly obsessed fans and many blog sites, I picked up my Lumia 950 XL on the day before Thanksgiving, as I’d pre-ordered mine at my local Microsoft mall kiosk. What’s the first thing I did? Well, open it up of course. … Read more…

Best April Fools Jokes 2015

I love April Fools. Mainly because as I’ve gotten older, people don’t prank me anymore. And now I can just sit back on Reddit and laugh at all the terrible things done at other people’s expense. But the best part is that big companies also love to spend a ton of money and time getting your attention with silly April Fools stuff. And boy does it work! It’s like the marketing departments are trying to create another superbowl! Oh crap, maybe they are. Not everything you’re going to see April Fools-wise is great, but here’s the stuff that actually made … Read more…

Microsoft’s Next Non-Pro Surface Announced

Seemingly out of nowhere, Microsoft simultaneously announced new 2-in-1 hardware and the future of its low end hardware brand. Previously, the Surface RT and Surface 2 featured ARM-based Nvidia Tegra chips and the firm’s ARM-based version of Windows. These devices never sold in very good quantities and typically received rave reviews for their hardware design, but disappointing murmurs for the OS, which did not support traditional desktop apps. I, on the other hand, did enjoy my Surface 2 quite a bit as it gave me a distraction free writing experience, consistent performance, good battery life, and a balance of high … Read more…

Windows 10 Technical Preview – Build 10041

After 54 days, Microsoft has released a new build of the technical preview. While many have been clamoring for Microsoft to release a build sooner, monthly or even weekly, I’d much rather they take their time and release builds that are more stable than those created in the past. Unfortunately, even after almost two months, this is the buggiest build yet, and I’m starting to wonder about the stability of the final product, considering Terry Myerson recently announced that Windows 10 would be shipping “this summer.” Considering “this summer” means anytime from June to September (June 21st to September 23rd … Read more…

Samsung Galaxy S6 – Better, but Still Dumb

I had a really hard time figuring out whether I wanted to post this article or not. With this site, I give my honest opinion and reviews on things, but I try to follow a general rule of ignoring things that I know for a fact that I’m going to hate, in order to prevent adding fuel to an already vitriolic fire within the internet. While I did only cover Windows-based MWC devices this year, this was not necessarily by design. I do pay attention to Android and iOS announcements and carefully consider whether or not I actually want to … Read more…

MWC 2015 Preview – HP Spectre x360

Upon hearing the news that my beloved Surface (RT) 2 wouldn’t be receiving a full Window 10 update, I started looking around at replacement options. And while I’ve seen a lot of great looking laptops, ultrabooks, and tablets, like the new Dell XPS 13 or the newest Lenovo Yogas, nothing really caught my eye. Believe me, the Dell XPS 13 looks great for a fairly standard looking and fairly pricy laptop, but since I’m used to Surface-level hardware, I was looking for something better. And then I saw this guy get announced on the MWC show floor. If you’re looking … Read more…
