MWC 2016 – HP Unveils The Elite X3 Windows Phone

This device has previously been leaked like crazy, but HP came ahead of the buzz today and announced it before the main festivities of MWC. Their new phone will be the Windows 10 Mobile powered Elite X3. The specs are pretty much exactly what we reported earlier via leaks, but a few additional details have come out since that post: All the leaked specs have been confirmed, except that the storage has been updated to 64 GB. But it should be noted that this thing has all of the technology. Keep the following in mind: 6-inch 2K AMOLED panel Latest … Read more…

Lumia 950XL Unboxing & First Impressions

The two Microsoft Lumia 950 flagships are finally here, after what seems like the longest wait in the history of niche mobile phone fandom ever. It’s been since early 2014 since the last Lumia flagship was released in the U.S., even if that was the ill-fated Verizon exclusive Icon. It’s been even longer if you’re on AT&T. Like many stupidly obsessed fans and many blog sites, I picked up my Lumia 950 XL on the day before Thanksgiving, as I’d pre-ordered mine at my local Microsoft mall kiosk. What’s the first thing I did? Well, open it up of course. … Read more…

A Discussion of the State of Windows Phone

This article has been a few months in the making. But every single time I sit down to write what I want to write here, I end up descending into some sort of angry fanboyism and mention every single thing I hate about other platforms, making me question the reason for the article and even question whether I really like the platform for the right reasons. Then I go back to my phone, use it for a few more days, play with the iPhone 6 and a few Android phones in my local electronics retailers, and continue to realize how … Read more…

Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS

When I’m considering an article for this site, I do have to wonder how much what I can talk about can seem obvious. I mean, anyone who knows that Nintendo made consoles after the SNES knows what Super Smash Bros. is, or at least should. I’m sure I’m not alone in having a lot of fond memories of crazy free-for-alls with friends vigorously pushing their Nintendo character of choice to the max. Putting it on a mobile platform just seems like it would make it way more awesome. There are obvious challenges to porting a console title to something much … Read more…

New Nokia is not designed for America

Its been a busy month for Nokia, but they still decided to release yet another Lumia phone. I’m a little disappointed that the “something big” that Nokia teased wasn’t a tablet, but the Lumia 625 was inevitable and while most tech bloggers will scoff this device, its clearly not designed for them or for America. The major draws of this will be its bigger 4.7″ IPS LCD screen and its lower price tag of 220 EUR ($290). Because of the lower price point, the specs are notably low end, including a 1.2 GHz dual core processor, 512 MB of RAM, and … Read more…
